If you’re looking for a strikingly beautiful horse, Blue Suede is your answer. The good thing is that he’s just as nice as he looks. I’ve had trouble getting his registration papers, but he’s by a black tobiano stallion, A Painted Warrior, APHA243594, and a grey mare, Midnight Diamond, APHA 316547.
Blue Suede has a very correct Western horse conformation, with a nice lean, athletic build with good hip and strong shoulders. As I write this, he’s 14.2 hands, but I think he’ll grow to 14.3 or so by the time he’s done. He has dark eyes, a grey mask on his face (so no sunburn problems) and four nice hard dark feet. This horse is super good-looking. Everybody loves his striking appearance.
I started this colt as a two-year-old and he promptly bucked me off. I obviously made a mistake, so I sent him down to Doubletree Farms in Delta, Colorado, to re-start him. They did a nice job and got him de-spooked and ridden for the first 15 rides or so, and then I took over again.
As a three-year-old, we used Blue Suede as a wrangler horse for our staff. He’s gone up and down the mountain several dozen times, leading two-hour and half-day trail rides. He’s got a beautiful disposition and likes people. He’ll walk right up to you in the field and let you scratch his chest. We haven’t finished this horse yet—he’s got a solid foundation, but we’re waiting for him to finish growing before we put a bunch more miles on him.
Blue Suede will easily carry a man weighing up to 175 pounds. He’ll be perfect for a lady rider.
In the spring of 2007, Blue Suede will be a nicely muscled four-year-old with a great head start on him that will let you finish him out. At this point, he loads in a trailer, stands tied, crosses the river, and stands calmly for the shoer. He’s starting to neck rein. Blue Suede just needs more miles as a four-year-old!
