Schofield is a kick in the pants. He’s a gentle pony who really likes people and is fun to ride. We started Schofield as a two-year-old, rode him a few times, and let him grow and allow his joints to firm up. This summer, as a three-year-old, I rode him several times and then turned him over to my sons, Reed and Jake, ages 12 and 10, to put some miles on him. Doris also rode him, and we had several other kids ride him as well.
They had a ball riding Schofield up the trails and around in the mountains. He’s a strong, willing pony with a good attitude and a desire to please. Like all of our horses, Schofield knows the ropes—standing tied, swimming the river, crossing bogs, staying out of barbed-wire fences, loading in a trailer, standing calmly for the farrier.
This pony is well built, with a conformation that will be great for either English or Western riding. He may top out right at 14 hands, which would make him a nice-size large pony. He’s completely sound and has no issues other than a crack in one hoof that should grow out over the winter.
Schofield is ready for a new job. We’ll ride him over the winter and then give him to Lindsay Alvarez, our Pony Club hunter/jumper trainer, to start him on jumps. Once he’s competing in the arena, his price will be much higher!
