About Us

Gary Hubbell, a native of Carbondale,Colorado, is the principal owner of
OutWest Guides, LLC. His articles and photos have appeared in Outdoor
Life, Bugle, Outside, Newsweek, Forbes, North American Hunter, Trail Rider
magazine, Outdoorsite.com, EddieBauer.com, Biggamehunt.net, and Heartland
USA, among others. He is the co-author of the award-winning book, "Shadowcasting:
An Introduction to the Art of Flyfishing." Gary was the still photographer
on the CD-Rom, "The ESPN Flyfishing School."
Gary and OutWest Guides have
been featured on the Outdoor Life Network's "Bird Dogs Forever" TV program
for the first-ever guided blue grouse hunt shown on television, and on
Denver KCNC-TV's "Colorado Getaways" program. Gary and Doris Hubbell also
own Clinetop Press, publishers of "The Labrador Shooting Dog" by Mike
Gould and "The Pointing Labrador" by Paul and Julie Knutson. In 2004,
OutWest Guides hosted Remington Firearms to photograph big game and upland
scenes for the 2004 Remington catalogue and a series of print ads that
will be seen in outdoor magazines for the next several years.
Gary has hunted the Marble, Colorado area since 1978, and began his
guiding career in Marble in 1985. He has taken numerous elk and trophy
mule deer with rifle and muzzleloader, and is an avid upland bird hunter.
Gary has guided flyfishing since 1986 and is known as one of the best
flyfishing instructors in the West. Gary's wife, Doris, is a native of
Switzerland and is an equal partner in OutWest Guides. She's a tremendous
hostess, horsewoman, and an excellent cook.
